UVC light has become hot due to the COVID-19 pandemic all over the world. But, it's a headache how to choose an effective and safe one when there is no clear standard for globally admitted certification yet nowadays.
Naturally, floods of factories lauched UVC light upon LED light sources.
But, we must be very careful while selecting a reliable UVC light/lamp/wand for sterilization purpose to fight againt the coronavirus. For example:
· Some factories declare that their LED UVC light adopt 254nm for effective disinfection, but the facts is: 254nm is the technology for traditrional UVC mercury tube, which could not be achieved for mass production for a LED light source nowadays. And also similar trick, some factories declare their UVC light adopt quite short wavelength like 265nm or even shorter for disinfection, but technology for such wavelength is still in lab stage, and failure rate is about 99% for mass production (which means costs will be incredibly high without a commercial value yet), how could it be possible for one to adopt such UVC LED light source for a light?
· Some factries declare that their UVC strip light/bar/wand is price competitive as well as good design, but they even don't have enough knowledge about the UVC LED light source. For example, we should not adopt any common cover (PC cover or common glass cover) for a UVC light, because the UVC spectrum will be blocked by the cover, and it won't have any disinfection effect if a common cover adopted for a UVC light (traditional mercury UVC tube adopt quartz glass, but it's easy to damage during transportation).
At current stage, a reliable UVC disinfection light based on LED light source, is always not a cheap one. Otherwise, you are buying a fake one for nothing!
But a reliable UVC light for disinfection purpose for a large areas, like hospital, school, airport, hotel......, even a light based on LED is not a right one. Because the effective power (irradiation illunimation) of UVC LED light source is too weak to meet the threshold of sterilizing demand, and the price is over high for a LED solution. So here comes what we need for such applications.
One one word, for a UVC light, one should not choose the cheap or price/competitive one, but a real, effective and safe one.
